Where is Alanya situated?

The climate in Alanya
One of the things Alanya is most known for, is its lovely weather and almost year-round sunshine. The average temperature in Alanya ranges from about 15 °C in the winter and 40 °C or even more in the summer. December to February are the coldest months and June to September are the warmest, of which August peaks with the highest temperatures each year. Sunbathers therefore will visit during the warmest months, whereas others prefer the months April and May, or September and October, with milder temperatures. During the winter you might not want to visit the beach between November and March, but the weather reminds mild and perfect for a walk outside.
Culture and lifestyle
Because Alanya is a popular destination, you will find a mixture of cultures living there. Not only many European, Iranian and Russian people live in Alanya permanently or partly, Turkish people from all over the country move to Alanya, too. Therefore the city has both its Turkish charme as modern amenities. For example, you can dine at a Turkish ‘lokanta’ with local, traditional food, or at a restaurant chain with international dishes. There is a museum, the Red Tower and the Castle of Alanya to visit, but you can also choose to go water-skiing or view the city from a cable car.
Stroll along the promenade of Alanya, which leads along the beach and offers a view at the castle and the colourful buildings of the city. You can go there for a jog in the morning, or settle down on a bench in the afternoon and enjoy some people-watching. The promenade is frequently visited by everyone living in Alanya or visiting the place.
One of Alanya’s top locations is Dimçayı, a river that flows through the Taurus Mountains and where you can enjoy a meal at the riverbed or even at the river itself. Breakfast, lunch or dinner is served while you are seated at a traditional floater with low seats and table. From there you have a view over the crystal-clear river and the mountains. You can even have a dive in the water if you take your swimwear with you. The water is chilly, which provides the perfect way to cool down during the summer months as swimming is allowed everywhere and the water cools the environment too.
Alanya’s city centre itself is also an area you don’t want to miss, with the Atatürk Street full of shops, big stores, restaurants and cafes. The historic city square with the statue of Atatürk often hosts events such as traditional dance and music.
How to get there?
Getting to Alanya is simple, because there are two airports situated nearby. The large airport of Antalya is situated at less than a two hour drive and offers daily flights to and from destinations all over the world. Gazipaşa airport is located even closer at only half an hour drive.
